The cupping technique
Over time, cupping therapy, a therapeutic instrument, was used by different cultures such as the Egyptians (1250 BC), the Chinese, from the Greeks to the Romans up to Hippocrates and Galen.
It was passed on from generation to generation orally and even several grandmothers tell us of having already used this therapy in the past to help their children to treat either bronchitis or colds.
Cupping is in Chinese medicine, a specialized branch called “Bao Huo Guan”.
The suction cup is one of the tools that the acupuncturist uses during treatments on the points
acupuncture to unclog and oxygenate certain blocked areas.
Applications of suction cups
Following an evaluation, the acupuncturist will apply the suction cups precisely on the skin and on acupuncture points or strategic places. The air vacuum created by the installation of the suction cups is obtained by the combustion of oxygen either by a flame or a manual pump. Cupping promotes and activates blood circulation, attracts body fluids and energy to the surface to release muscle stiffness, knots, during accumulated tension in the muscles and body or during sports trauma.
The types of cups used today are made of glass or silicone and the cupping methods are fixed, mobile or flash cups depending on the method prioritized by the practitioner. Hence the importance of having an energy assessment by your acupuncturist so that the treatment is adapted to each individual.
The duration of exposure can vary from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the reason for consultation and the constitution of the person. The cupping suction can vary from light to stronger depending on the needs of each individual.
During suction, the sucked area takes on a color ranging from bright red to dark red depending on the suction cup method used. In some people it can take anywhere from 2 days to 4-5 days to fade away, you have nothing to be worried about!.
